Z-Wave is one of the most widely used home automation protocols, which communicates between devices using wireless RF waves. Zwave plus is a new certification scheme designed to aid in the identification of new Zwave devices that use the latest 500 series Zwave, often known as Gen5 Zwave. The Zwave Plus logo will appear on certified Zwave Plus devices.
The technology and products of the Zwave series 500 provide a variety of benefits, including:
- Much longer battery life, with a 50 percent increase in capacity.
- Network Wide Inclusion (NWI) allows devices to be included from anywhere on the
- network, with a range of up to 150 feet compared to 100 feet earlier.
- Over the air (OTA) firmware updates
- Improved self-healing, more bandwidth, more RF channels for increased reliability
Zwave Plus certified devices are backwards compatible with older generation Zwave devices, minus some of the new features and benefits of course.
